COTR Segments

· I think I have fixed the formatting issue for the newsletter that have made the images “disappear”. You should be able to see the banners at the bottom and any other photos in the newsletters this week. If you can’t……I will go back to the keyboard and mouse and figure it out (or it might be your settings)

· Where was the MECX team at Tugboat? Only 2 racers getting points??

· Check out the re-formatted page for the Team standings that Roland has been working on.

Also
· Besides the Bear X-ing and the Royal Victoria Running Festival this weekend there is another event going on Saturday south-west of here on the island of KONA. One of our own COTR racers, Peter Reid, was just inducted into the Ironman Hall of Fame this week down in Hawaii (that is why he missed Tugboat and will miss Bear). Check out this article written a bit about Peter here: http://www.ironman.com/triathlon/news/articles/2016/10/peter-reid-ironman-hall-of-fame.aspx#axzz4MMoqY0Go

Huge Congratulations Peter!
· Good luck to sometimes COTR racer Jason Sandquist racing the BIG show in KONA.

1. Bear X-Ing Preview and Information

REGISTRATION
It is getting close to being MANDATORY but for now it is still (almost) mandatory. Registration CLOSES at 8:00 pm on Sunday Night. Before you e-mail me at 8:01pm, 9:05pm etc about re-opening it or us registering you…..the answer is “no”. We have other things to do!!

Registration link: https://raceroster.com/events/2016/10088/2016-cross-on-the-rock-the-bear-xing
Note: Masters and Intermediate MAY fill up…..so don’t wait. (note: last year’s Intermediate at Bear X-Ing is over our 80 limit now)

LOCATION
One of the most important things you need to know about this coming Monday’s race is…it is in the SAME spot as the last 2 years. If you were not there for the last 2 years just drive to the top of Bear Mountain and look for signs.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
Making use of the entirety of the ever changing Bear Mountain Golf Driving Range, plus some new “off range” sections and off-bike features, the race course will be like last year’s super-fast rolling and flowy endeavour but changed up from the previous 2 editions to make use of the undulating and perfectly groomed golf course terrain in new and exciting ways. There will still be lots of bermed corners, off camber sections and high speed momentum sectors, but there will also be some more challenging sections as well to mix things up from previous years.

IMPORTANT – PARKING
Just like last year traffic control signage will be directing all cyclocross participants and fans to the corporate parking lot holding up to 280 cars.

From the parking lot, signage will guide participants to the race venue area 600m away.

TEAM TENT AREA – make sure to RSVP
Once again there will be a designated TENT ALLEY course section (with barriers!) for this year’s Bear Crossing. If you want to reserve a team tent spot fire Drew a note (drew.mackenzie@triathloncanada.com).

Keep in mind that Bear Mtn has very limited parking down at the driving range and so team’s wanting to be part of TENT ALLEY will have to drive down the gravel road, drop off their tent and then drive their vehicle back up to the main parking lot.

BIKE WASH
Water and bike cleaning area will be available at the back of The HUB located en-route between the main parking lots and the race course. (IF there is a hose bib that we can locate at the driving range we will also set up the power washer for pre and during events. Post event washes are expected to be done at “The HUB”)

EVENT SPONSORS:
Shimano (http://bike.shimano.com/)
Pearl Izumi (http://www.pearlizumi.com/)
Pro Components (http://www.pro-bikegear.com/en-gb)

FOOD and BEVERAGE:
The best waffles in the business, Wannawafel will be on site.

We will also have a beer cart next to TENT ALLEY. Cash / Debit / Credit all accepted as payment for beer.

AWARDS and APRES RACE:
Following the Expert races, Awards will take place on the Masters Lounge Patio at the Westin Bear Mountain Resort. The Masters Lounge will be serving a pared down menu of pub fare (wings, soup, salad, pizza, burgers, and sandwiches) and will have a beer special – Lighthouse Lager for $5/pint. Lots of food options and one of the best views of any awards venue out there.

The weather is looking 50/50 at the moment, so if it’s wet and rainy we will provide some extra coverage on the Patio to keep everyone dry

2. COTR 2016 Hats. Limited Quanity

Short note on this one. We have had some COTR 2016 Hats made up by Sew What I Sew in Cumberland. They are sweet. 4 styles and so far the first 4 people that have them (Race directors) all picked different ones. So the score is 1 all. . We will have them at Bear X-ing for $28. First come.

3. (will keep repeating until October 16th) Tripleshot Crossfondo 2016

Check out this promo edit for the crossfondo:

Sunday, October 16, 2016, 9am: Victoria BC’s first mass participation off-road cycling event for all ages and abilities winds through flowy pine-needle trails and hairpin turns, over hills, roots and rocks, and churns through chunky peanut butter mud and puddles. Oh, and maybe a few hike-a-bike sections.

If you have always wanted to do Three Peaks in England (http://3peakscyclocross.org.uk/) but have not checked it off your list. This is the closest we will get in Canada!!

Should be AWESOME
