Cross on the Rock 2026.  Season #20

Newsletter #6 – Blue Bridge Cross this weekend!

Warm Ups:

  • Registration has been OPEN for the OBB – Blue Bridge Racing Cross for a while….don’t leave it until the last second!
  • SOCKS.  Have you picked yours up yet?  A LOT of people have NOT picked up yet.  We have only 7 Medium, 17 Large and 6 XL left for sale.  You can purchase through the registration page.
  • T-Shirts and Hats.  Small production run.  TRYING to have them ready for this weekend….but the printers only work 4 days a week…..We have not had hats or T’s for probably 10 years so this is a unique opportunity.  As soon as we have CONFIRMATION on them they will be available through the on-line reg. system and we will post mock ups and photos on the socials.
  • Check your points and your team points.  We want to minimize mistakes and corrections going into the last race.
  • Honestly what could be sweeter than winning your first Cross on the Rock race on your 100th attempt and on a single speed in Port Alberni!  We were SO pumped for Halldor!!
1. OBB – Blue Bridge Racing Cross

REGISTER HERE

This is the sixth year in a at the Jordie Lunn Bike Park located in Irwin Park, Langford. We’ve had all sorts of weather here: epic rain to dry and dusty. Forecast is currently calling for a bit of rain. Our title race sponsors are Oak Bay Bikes and Blue Bridge Racing. Rhino Coffee House is open 8:30-4:00 enjoy a snack and a drink before and after your race.

We will have a little kids race again this year in the area near our starting area.

PAY ATTENTION TO THIS NOTE ABOUT PARKING!!  (We do NOT want you to be towed away and you have to ride home all cold etc.)

Parking this is the BIG issue so PAY attention!!
Parking is going to be tight. Please carpool or ride out if you live in greater Victoria.
Please follow the directions of the parking volunteers
DO NOT PARK on any residential streets. (You will be towed and get us banned from the venue)
Not annoying the neighbours is THE key to being allowed back to this venue.
There are FOUR + One  places you CAN park.  See the MAP.
  1. The main parking lot is at 2992 Irwin Road. Please only use this to drop off equipment and then park elsewhere.
  2. Continue on Irwin Rd and you can park in front of the Church. This parking will be marked with special event parking signs.
  3. The Creekside parking lot is OPEN again this year!! (Where the P with the slash through it is on the map)
  4. When both lots are full, there is overflow parking on Constellation Ave, only 500m away.
  5. I know there is one more spot in that area that someone mentioned last year….I think down by Langford Lake
I repeat: There is NO PARKING on the shoulder of Irwin Rd (other than in front of the church) or other nearby streets.
Please use a parking lot or you will be towed.

COURSE

Expect a 2.5km loop with a mix of fast hard packed surfaces, technical features, pump track, and a bit of mud. All set in a beautiful forested park with two mini lakes. We had positive reviews from last year where we ran the course in reverse, so we are doing it again. Expect a course that’s easier on your bike and has some running.  NUMBERS ON YOUR LEFT!

2. Whiskey Throttle CX in Retrograde

Photos from Jirka Petrou!!

Nik and Lee’s race notes:

Thank you all for coming out to the 1st ever Whiskey Throttle CX!
There was mud!! Fireworks?! Warm food! Cold drinks! DJ beats!
Another successful event for Team Slug Racing
Big thank you to our timers, and course prep volunteers!
Sunday morning was stressful. Strong winds and rain made the tape heavy and hang low. (tight tape for the next storm)
Big thanks to those who lent a hand in fixing this!
I think everyone welcomed the rain and mud with open arms. Bowen may have been the dustiest COTR ever… (one more title)
We loved seeing Haldor crush #100 with a win!! WOW. I’ve always been a huge fan of how this guy rides since my first year 2015 (Nik).
Zach taking a page from MVDP and just going to war alone out there for the win in expert.
Seeing the Slugs try their best for a Home Town Take Over 😉 ❤️
We were quite happy with the course layout. It was spicy, but safe. There was tons of room for passing. Great blend of surface types and spectators could see most of the course.
Thank you to everyone who came up to Lee or I and mentioned your stoke for the course! We love hearing about what you loved… or didn’t haha. It felt like people were extra pumped this year!
Thank you to our race sponsors:
Godfathers, Trek, Twin City Brewing, and Bomber Boulders, Coombs Country Candy

And to the series sponsors that keep COTR awesome!

Thank you to DJ Goon, DJ OZ, DJ Hammy
Thank you to Twin City Brewing, Sutra foods, and Ro’s for feeding the people!
Thank you to Alberni Valley Coldcreek MX track: Dave and Geoff pour their heart into the moto community and we’re happy to accommodate us!
2 wheel love ❤️
Thank you to the COTR team!
Thank you to the racers who showed up for the BEST cyclocross race of the season.
See you next in Victoria,
Lee and Nik🏁❤️
PS: We’re not 100% sure but It’s quite possible Drew and Jolelle attended our race? Are they back for the 20th season?! (Confirmed by Norm they were BOTH there and racing!)
Or are we just that cool? 😎
Also, Buttcats: the Taphouse was a little short-staffed.. next year?❤️ (Added by Norm…..Buttcats where were you all)

This map that we posted makes sense now!!

Greater Victoria a few options:
a) Cross Club is done for the year!
b) This THURSDAY night @bluebridgeracing has their CX after dark rides November 5th.  They will have demo lights from Full On Lighting as well.

Cross is here! 🔥 Come celebrate the start of the season with us by riding in the woods at night! We’re hosting a series of group rides leaving from the shop. Expect 1.5 to 2hrs of fun, with a sprinkle of technical single track. We will have an A and B group depending on how many people come out, so please let your friends know! @fullonlighting with be out riding with us with some demos – let us know if you’re in need of some lights for the ride; more details to come. Route will be posted at the start of the week. Meeting at the @oakbaybikes parking lot at 6pm

4. 11s Coffee Last Not Lapped!

Normally the magic beans from 11 Speed Coffee mysteriously appear on our awards table at each race.  So we were confused at Whiskey CX when they were not there.  Lucky the Slug thugs had some bags of candy as a quick substitute!

We checked in with Kyle and found out he was smashed with the flu Saturday night after planning on making the trip to Port Alberni.

SO we will have the Last Not Lapped blend ready for pick up for the following 10 people at registration on Sunday:

  • Peter Martin
  • Scarlett Mcfarlen
  • Jeremy Robson
  • Liz Cox
  • Aaron Racher
  • Flemming Sorvin
  • Amanda McArthur
  • Wendy Cocksedge
  • Emma Coulter
  • Evan Flater
