OK…..we are getting set to bring you race number 2 in season number 5 of Cross on the Rock. The last time we hosted a race on a thanksgiving Monday it was our biggest turn out to date…..we even used the controversial Juan de-Fuca velodrome! With the easy access to and from the ferry of Bowen Park in Nanaimo….we hope to again have a great turn out.

THE RACE GUIDE is NOW POSTED. And updated: the correct date of the race is Monday October 11th, 2010.

PLEASE NOTE we have made some adjustments to the race schedule including: 1) Moving start times up a tiny bit so that racers from the mainland can snag the 5pm sailing home and 2) the OPEN WOMEN will be racing with the intermediate men….we are going to try this out and see how it goes.

SERIES NEWS:

We have a venue for our October 31st race in Victoria…..we had our feelers out for a few locations but this one is solid and should be great. Here is the description from race director Drew MacKenzie

A classically designed cyclocross course in the European tradition with varied terrain including grass (of mixed heights and sogginess), wood chips, hard packed gravel sections and some bike path pavement. The mainly flat 2.7 KM course is twisty in spots with lots of doubling back on itself – great for spectating and keeping your eye on fellow competitors in the heat of battle. It’s a balanced mix of high/low speed riding, wide open power sections, tight technical cornering, and flowing long radius turns snaking its way through out Layritz Park. A fun course for newbies and veterans alike, the main feature will be the smile left on your face. No maniacal sections of imminent doom or run ups through cesspool waterfalls. Just rainbows and ponies the whole way through.

JUST FOR YOUR INTEREST:
The Three Peaks race in North England that began in the late 1950s. 61kms long, 28kms is road, 33kms off-road and 6kms hike a bike! Looks like a sweet race

can I post my mtb for sale here or is it cx only?
    2009 Trek Fuel EX 9: $1,850

DRIVETRAIN: SRAM TOP OF THE LINE CASSETTE, FRONT RINGS, CHAIN, X9 SHIFTERS & REAR DERAILER.
FRONT DERAILER, BB AND CRANKS: SHIMANO XT
    HANDLEBAR & SEATPOST: CARBON BONTRAGER
    SEAT: BONTRAGER TITANIUM
TIRES: BONTRAGER 2.1 BUT I CAN INCLUDE RACE TIRES: MAXXIS MONORAIL (50% REAR & 90% FRONT), STANS TUBELESS

Bike is pretty much stock. I replaced the drivetrain and fork stanchions in the spring and recently changed the oil again in the fork & rear shock. They are mint. The X-9 shifters are both new as well and the freehub was just serviced too. Shockmount, BB and both brake pad sets are new.

It rides like butter, quiet & smooth, needs nothing and has plenty of hours to go before anything else needs to be done. Always well maintained by a professional mechanic. I’m selling it because I want a 29er and the-boss-of-me says I can’t have more than 3 bikes at once. Besides, she only has 2. 🙁 I’m 6’0 and it fits me but 6’1 might be a bit too tall. 5’6 is OK too. Frame has some cosmetic scratches but they blend in with the sliver color so they aren’t too noticable. Besides, they look tough, gives it character. Everything is rock solid. Pedals and bottle cages not included.

Actual steer tube to seatpost is 23″. Virtual is 18.5″. Bike (including pedals and cages) weighs 26 lbs.
